Tanakh: Joel 2:23-32
O children of Zion, be glad,
Rejoice in the Becoming One your God.
For Xe has given you the early rain in kindness,
Now Xe makes the rain fall as formerly—
The early rain and the late—
And threshing floors shall be piled with grain,
And vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
“I will repay you for the years
Consumed by swarms and hoppers,
By grubs and locusts,
The great army I let loose against you.
And you shall eat your fill
and praise the name of the Becoming One your God
who dealt so wondrously with you—
my people shall be shamed no more.
And you shall know
That I am in the midst of Israel:
That I the Becoming One am your God
And there is no other.
And My people shall be shamed no more.”
After that,I will pour out My spirit on all flesh;
Your children of many genders shall prophesy;
Your old people shall dream dreams,
And your young ones shall see visions.
I will even pour out My spirit
Upon slaves of all genders in those days.
Before the great and terrible day of the Becoming One comes,
I will set warning signs in the sky and on earth:
Blood and fire and pillars of smoke;
The sun shall turn into darkness
And the moon into blood.
But everyone who invokes the name of the Becoming One shall escape;
for there shall be a remnant on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
as the Becoming One promised. Anyone who invokes the Becoming One
will be among the survivors.

9Jesus also told this riddle to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous while despising others: 10“Two people went up to the temple to pray, one a religious leader and the other an Empire collaborator.
11The religious leader, standing to himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: those who exploit others, those who are corrupt in their relationships, those who cheat, or even like this Empire collaborator. 12I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my possessions.’
13But the Empire collaborator, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
14I tell you, on the way home, this one is justified alongside that one; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Gospel: Luke 9:51-62
51When the days drew near for Jesus to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; 53but they did not receive Jesus, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.
54When some of his chosen family, James and John saw it, they said, “Leader, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”
55But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56Then they went on to another village.
57As they were going along the road, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58And Jesus said to them, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Child of Humanity has nowhere to lay Their head.” 59To another Jesus said, “Follow me.”
But she said, “Leader, first let me go and bury my father.”
60But Jesus said to her, “Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the reign of God.”
61Another said, “I will follow you, Leader; but let me get closure with those at my home.”
62Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the reign of God.”

Gospel: Luke 2:41-52
41Now every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. 42And when Jesus was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. 43When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. 44Assuming that Jesus was in the group of travelers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for Jesus among their relatives and friends.
45When they did not find Jesus, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47And all who heard Jesus were beside themselves at his understanding and his answers.
48When his parents saw him they were at a loss; and Jesus' mother said to him, “Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your other caregiver and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.”
49Jesus said to them, “Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Caregiver’s house?”
50But they did not understand what Jesus said to them. 51Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favor.

Shout for joy, fair Zion,
cry aloud, O Israel!
Rejoice and be glad with all your heart,
fair Jerusalem!
The Becoming One has annulled the judgment against you,
She has swept away your foes.
Israel’s Sovereign, the Becoming One, is within you;
you need fear misfortune no more.
In that day,
this shall be said to Jerusalem:
Have no fear, O Zion;
let not your hands droop!
Your God the Becoming One is in your midst,
a warrior who brings triumph.
She will rejoice over you and be glad,
She will shout over you with jubilation.
She will soothe with Her love
those long disconsolate.
I will take away from you the woe
over which you endured mockery.
At that time I will make an end
of all who afflicted you.
And I will rescue the crippled sheep
and gather the strayed;
and I will exchange their disgrace
for fame and renown in all the earth.
At that time I will gather you,
and at that time I will bring you home;
for I will make you renowned and famous
among all the peoples on earth,
when I restore your fortunes
before their very eyes
—said the Becoming One.

7John said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Bear fruits worthy of repentance. Do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our ancestor’; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Hagar and Sarah. 9Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10And the crowds asked John, “What then should we do?”
11In reply John said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.”
12Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and they asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?”
13John said to them, “Collect no more than the amount prescribed for you.”
14Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what should we do?”
John said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.”
15As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, 16John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of that one's sandals. The one who is coming will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17The winnowing fork is in hand, to clear the threshing floor and to gather the wheat into the granary; but the chaff will be burned with unquenchable fire.” 18So, with many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.

Tanakh: 2 Samuel 7:1-14a
When the king was settled in his palace and the Becoming One had granted him safety from all the enemies around him, the king said to the prophet Nathan: “Here I am dwelling in a house of cedar, while the Ark of the Becoming One abides in a tent!”
Nathan said to the king, “Go and do whatever you have in mind, for the Becoming One is with you.”
But that same night the word of the Becoming One came to Nathan: “Go and say to My servant David: thus said the Becoming One: are you the one to build a house for Me to dwell in? From the day that I brought the people of Israel out of Egypt to this day I have not dwelt in a house, but have moved about in Tent and Tabernacle. As I moved about wherever the Israelites went, did I ever reproach any of the tribal leaders whom I appointed to care for My people Israel: why have you not built Me a house of cedar?
“Further, say thus to My servant David: thus said the Becoming God of Angel Armies: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler of My people Israel, and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut down all your enemies before you. Moreover, I will give you great renown like that of the greatest people on earth. I will establish a home for My people Israel and will plant them solidly, so that they shall dwell secure and shall tremble no more. Evil people shall not oppress them anymore as in the past, ever since I appointed chieftains over My people Israel. I will give you safety from all your enemies.
“The Becoming One declares to you that Femme, the Becoming One, will establish a house for you. When your days are done and you lie with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own issue, and I will establish his kingship. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish his royal throne forever. I will be a parent to him, and he shall be a child to Me.”

30The chosen family gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.
31Jesus said to them, “Come away to a
deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming
and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
32And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
33Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.
34As Jesus went ashore, he saw a great crowd;
and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a
shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
[...]
53When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat.
54When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized Jesus,
55and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard Jesus was.

that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched
it were healed.

Tanakh: 2 Samuel 6:1-5, 12b-19
David again assembled all the picked men of Israel, thirty thousand strong.
Then David and all the troops that were with him set out from Baalim of Judah to bring up from there the Ark of God to which the Name was attached, the name Becoming One of Hosts enthroned on the Cherubim.
They loaded the Ark of God onto a new cart and conveyed it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Abinadab’s sons, Uzza and Ahio, guided the new cart.
They conveyed it from Abinadab’s house on the hill, walking alongside the Ark of God and Ahio walking in front of the Ark.
Meanwhile, David and all the House of Israel danced before the Becoming One to all kinds of cypress wood instruments, with lyres, harps, timbrels, sistrums, and cymbals.
[...]
Then David went and brought up the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David, amid rejoicing. When the bearers of the Ark of the Becoming One had moved forward six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.
David whirled with all his might before the Becoming One; David was girded with a linen jockstrap.
Thus David and all the House of Israel brought up the Ark of the Becoming One with shouts and with blasts of the horn.
As the Ark of the Becoming One entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Becoming One; and she despised him for it.
They brought in the Ark of the Becoming One and set it up in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and offerings of well-being before the Becoming One. When David finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and the offerings of well-being, he blessed the people in the name of the Becoming One of Hosts.Then, he distributed among all the people—the entire multitude of Israel, man and woman and humans alike—to each a loaf of bread, a cake made in a pan, and a raisin cake. Then all the people left for their homes.
David went home to greet his household.

14King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’
name had become known. Some were saying, “John the baptizer has been
raised from the dead; and for this reason these powers are at work in
him.”
15But others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”
16But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.”
17For Herod himself had sent men
who arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of
Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod had married her.
18For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19And Herodias had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not,
20for Herod feared John, knowing that he
was a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. When he heard him,
he was greatly perplexed; and yet he liked to listen to him.
21But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and for the leaders of Galilee.
22When his daughter Herodias came in and
danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king said to the girl,
“Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it.”
23And he solemnly swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.”
24She went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?”
She replied, “The head of John the baptizer.”
25Immediately the girl rushed back to the king
and requested, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the
Baptist on a platter.”
26The king was deeply grieved; yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her.
27Immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison,
28brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother.
29When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.

Young Samuel was in the service of the Becoming One under Eli. In those days the word of the Becoming One was rare; prophecy was not widespread. One day, Eli was asleep in his usual place; his eyes had begun to fail and he could barely see. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the temple of the Becoming One where the Ark of God was.
The Becoming One called out to Samuel, and Samuel answered, “I’m coming.” He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli replied, “I didn’t call you; go back to sleep.” So Samuel went back to lay down.
Again the Becoming One called, “Samuel!”
Samuel rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli replied, “I didn’t call, my son; go back to sleep.”
—Now Samuel had not yet experienced the Becoming One; the word of the Becoming One had not yet been revealed to him.—
The Becoming One called Samuel again, a third time, and he rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli understood that the Becoming One was calling the boy. And Eli said to Samuel, “Go lie down. If you are called again, say, ‘Speak, Becoming One, for Your servant is listening.’” And Samuel went to his place and lay down.

When the Becoming One was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind,
Elijah and Elisha had set out from Gilgal.
Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, for the Becoming One has sent me on to Bethel.”
“As the Becoming One lives and as you live,” said Elisha, “I will not leave you.”
So they went down to Bethel.
Disciples of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Becoming One will take your master away from you today?”
Elisha replied, “I know it, too; be silent.”
Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, for the Becoming One has sent me on to Jericho.”
“As the Becoming One lives and as you live,” said Elisha, “I will not leave you.”
So they went on to Jericho. The disciples of the prophets who were at Jericho came over to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Becoming One will take your master away from you today?”
He replied, “I know it, too; be silent.”
Elijah said to him, “Stay here, for the Becoming One has sent me on to the Jordan.”
“As the Becoming One lives and as you live, I will not leave you,” he said, and the two of them went on.
Fifty men of the disciples of the prophets followed and stood by at a distance from them as the two of them stopped at the Jordan. Thereupon Elijah took his mantle and, rolling it up, he struck the water; it divided to the right and left, so that the two of them crossed over on dry land. As they were crossing, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
Elisha answered, “Let a double portion of your spirit pass on to me.”
“You have asked a difficult thing,” he said. “If you see me as I am being taken from you, this will be granted to you; if not, it will not.”
As they kept on walking and talking, a fiery chariot with fiery horses suddenly appeared and separated one from the other; and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “Oh, father, father! Israel’s chariots and horsemen!” When he could no longer see him, he grasped his garments and rent them in two. He picked up Elijah’s mantle, which had dropped from him; and he went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Taking the mantle which had dropped from Elijah, he struck the water and said, “Where is the Becoming One, the God of Elijah?” As he too struck the water, it parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over.
